250th Battle of Brooklyn
August 28th-30th, 2026
Fort Hamilton, Prospect Park, Old Stone House, N.Y.
The 250th Anniversary of the Battle of Brooklyn will take place August 28–30, 2026, across historic sites in Brooklyn, commemorating the largest battle of the American Revolution and one of its most pivotal early engagements. Sponsored by the Brigade of the American Revolution, with host units from the 3rd New York Long Island Companies and the 2nd New Jersey, this immersive weekend will bring together military and civilian living historians to interpret the events of August 1776 on the very ground where they unfolded. The event will center on Prospect Park, including Long Meadow and Battle Pass, with additional commemorative ceremonies planned at sites such as the Old Stone House and Fort Greene Park, home to the Prison Ship Martyrs Memorial. Programming will highlight the scale, complexity, and human experience of the battle through reenactments, tactical demonstrations, route marches, and memorial observances. A full schedule of activities, registration details, and public programming information will be released soon. Additional background on featured presentations and historic sites can be found in the attached materials.
Participants will be based at Fort Hamilton, which will serve as the event’s headquarters and primary encampment location. Both British and American military encampments will be established near the historic landing areas, with standard amenities including wood, water, and latrines provided. Fort Hamilton will also host special interpretive programming throughout the weekend, including a military history exhibit, museum access, and an evening concert. From Fort Hamilton, participants will be transported by bus to Prospect Park and other ceremony locations across Brooklyn, allowing living historians to experience multiple historic landscapes tied directly to the 1776 campaign. This event offers a rare opportunity to “make history happen where it happened,” bringing the story of the Battle of Brooklyn to life for participants and the public alike. More information on registration, logistics, and schedules will be announced in the coming months.
