The BAR has a long history of re-enacting and friendly firelock matches. You don't necessarily have to shoot to enjoy the 500+ acres of the Historic Daniel Boone Homestead. If you would like to camp and live fire your weapon without competing that's perfectly acceptable. But I have to warn you, once you're at the Homestead you might not be able to resist the rich heritage of Daniel Boone and partake in a real backcountry shooting match. The objective for the weekend is fun and relaxation in an 18th Century setting.
Bring the whole family. Non-shooters can tour the Boone Homestead or just enjoy the event. There will also be 18th century games for the kids. By the way, we mean the whole family is welcome. The Homestead is a pet friendly site. Your are only required to contain your pet and clean up after it. By the way, if you would like an extra night of camping or want to relax before going home, arrangements will be made to extend the stay into Monday the 15th. There are Hotels in the area. Google Birdsboro or Reading Pa for locations. You do not have to camp to compete.
COMPETITION:
On Friday the 12th we will start setting up camp. You can arrive as early as 9 am or as late as you wish. If you plan on coming on Saturday arrive around 9 am. There will be someone to help you get settled. The Match will start on Saturday, 10 am sharp. Saturday is an individual competition.
Prizes will be high aggregate. High Aggregate is the total score for rifle, musket and pistol targets. You don't have to shoot all three to qualify for high aggregate. Two of the three is all that is necessary.
There will also be prizes awarded for 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in rifle and 1st, 2nd, & 3rd in musket. From there prizes will be awarded by order of rank to all participants for all rifle and musket targets.
Sunday is a team competition. Four person teams will compete. There will be rifle and musket team events. Targets will include standard bull, standard "X", the enemy, knock down and novelty. There will be a tomahawk throw and a bayonet lunge.
There is a nominal entry fee to cover targets, prizes and Saturday awards dinner. Prizes for individual events will be awarded after the dinner on Saturday night.
SAFETY and UNIFORM REGULATIONS:
BAR Standard Operating Procedure as outlined in the Brigade's Firelock Match Rules will be in effect. The Pennsylvania Historical & Museum Commission Safety Manual for Historic Weapons will be strictly followed. These two documents do not conflict with each other. Your cooperation is kindly requested in this matter. You must wear BAR approved 18th century clothing to compete. All firearms discharged at the Homestead must pass inspection for soundness and proper mechanical function. Flash guards and Hammer stalls are required and must be properly attached. Only period and safety equipment allowed on the line. Modern eye and hearing protection are required.
NO BULK POWDER allowed on the firing line or in camp. The only exception is priming horns, 2 oz. max. If necessary a special area will be set up to allow cartridge making from approved bulk powder containers. Bulk powder in approved one pound cans will be stored in a designated area. This area will be away from the camp and general public. Sorry, Powder horns are not allowed on the site.
