Hallie Larkin, Southcoast Historical Associates, will lead two separate one-day workshops – one for silk bonnets and one for caps. Silk bonnets were worn by women of various classes and at different stages in their life. Caps are the most fundamental of head coverings and yet many women struggle with finding a cap suitable for their persona and one in which they feel comfortable. Each workshop will include a PowerPoint presentation using period art and extant examples, and references. Participants will then be able to try on several examples of each garment and can select the one they wish to construct from the provided kits. Bonnet participants, depending on their sewing expertise, can expect to have their project 60 – 75% completed. Cap participants, depending on their sewing expertise, can expect to have their project 50-60% completed.
The workshops are limited to 12 participants and registration must be received by February 23, 2008. Places will be secured by sending a non-refundable check, made payable to Hallie Larkin, to the CCM Superintendent at the following address:

To reach the Community Center, proceed as if you were going to New Windsor Cantonment. Go to Schlesinger’s Steak House and turn onto Commerce drive, which is directly opposite the Steak House. The Community Center is on your right with a parking lot in front of it. Watch for the BAR spontoon signs
