WINTER CLOTHING & SEWING WORKSHOPS

Workshop for Bedgown

Sunday, March 9, 2008, 11 am to 4 pm

New Windsor Community Center, Vales Gate, NY

Registration | Directions | Contacts | Measurements & Materials

Shake off the winter blahs and start working on a new garment that you’ve been planning. Come learn how to construct a bedgown or bring a work-in-progress, or under consideration, for feedback and assistance. Show us your wardrobe components and receive advice on how to improve your “look” and how to select appropriate accessories. There will be reference books available for review and plenty of time to catch up with old friends and make some new ones.

Beginning with a discussion of bedgowns at 11:00 am, Gerry Ferris will share her ongoing research into bed gowns, how they relate to what is known about “short gowns”, and various construction techniques. If you wish to construct a bedgown, bring 2-1/2 to 3 yards of fabric, preferably solid color linen, worsted or woolen textile, as well as your sewing supplies (scissors, pins, needles, thread, and tape measure). Participants will learn how to drape for a bedgown and cut out a bedgown for themselves.

You’ll have plenty of help with whatever you need, whether it’s a final fitting, learning more sewing techniques, or selecting the right fabric for the right garment. As always, men are most cordially invited and encouraged to attend.

Continental breakfast and lunch will be provided. Please RSVP for food needs estimate.
